that will not have the 100s, a lot of 90s inland during the afternoon. with conditions like that, alum rock park in san jose will be closed because of extreme fire danger. the park closed yesterday to reduce potential for fire. alum rock often closes during hot weather spells so dry there the most recent closure in june. berkeley firefighters watching over a fire in morning that destroyed a duplex and forced five out of their homes. the fire erupted after midnight in the rear of this house near ashby avenue. police officers went into the burning building and rescued a woman in a wheelchair. nearby residents also evacuated. firefighters managed to keep the blaze confine to the house. no injuries, no word on what caused the fire. amy hollyfield will have more in a live report in the next half hour. drowning of a lafayette

college student in the sacramento river has been ruled accidental accidental. 20-year-old brett olsen vanished his body was fond a week later. he had alcohol in his system and had recently used cocaine. his blood alcohol level was almost three times the legal limit to drive he grew up in lafayette and graduated from acalanes high. >> a body was recovered yesterday where a fishing boat capsized sunday. deputies searched for a missing fisherman. the coroner was called, sheriff's office confirms -- sunday a big wave hit and overturned the boat. four started swimming to shore, two didn't make it the two not wearing life jackets. looks like we'll still be calling them the oakland a's

for years to come the owner has been trying to work on a deal to move the club to san jose but the oakland coliseum is back in the picture. terry mcsweeney with more. >> reporter: these are happy days for the a's and their fan base. first they in the playoffs, second, if they beat the rangers again today they win the american league west and number three, there is now a report that a five-year extension the a's staying in oakland is about to be a done deal. a's doing what they do best, winning again last night against the rangers. again, showdown today, 12:30 for the al west title. a report today the a's and county coliseum authority negotiating five year lease extension. major league baseball offering to negotiate the deal. a's manager partner wolf saying he's absolutely

interested in the extension. he has made no secret he would like to take the team to san jose the city officially declared san francisco, giants' territory major league baseball looking at the issue for three years. wolf said if they don't make a decision soon, take it off the table, either hit it or quit it, i don't want to sit around waiting for the commission to make up its mind. the a's face a fine if it leaves the coliseum early and there is no place to go. no stadium in san jose that can handle a mlb team. it would take years to build. mayor quan is hoping to build a stadium in oakland maybe jack london square. for the time being looks like five years the a's will be staying in oakland. game today 12:35 against the rangers for the american league west title who would have thunk that?

to fly as well. >> fleet week busy time for the coast guard and 65 police and auxillary boats will help. they practiced rescued yesterday at yerba buena island. they expect 2,000 private boats to be on the water for fleet week activities. drills at ocean beach using an amphibious hovercraft beginning 10:00 this morning. drills and demonstrations will continue through the noon hour. check out the hardly strictly bluegrass festival or the columbus parade, castro street fair. this weekend will be a traffic headache with hundreds of thousands of people packing into san francisco. we have a map at abc7news.com where you can click on each event to see how to avoid some of the traffic hot spots. it depends on what you like.

manhunt underway after u.s. border patrol was shot and killed near the mexican border a second agent was injured in the ambush, a third escaped unharmed the agents were checking on an alarm. the fbi is putting all resources into the investigation. officials believe the shooter may be part of a mexican drug cartel the agent who died was 30-year-old nicholas ivie from utah he leaves a wife and two children. "good morning america" will have more at 7:00. new details about another attack on u.s. officials on august 24th. senior u.s. official says there is strong evidence to believe that mexican police who fired on a u.s. embassy vehicle carrying two cia officers were working for an organized crime ring and tried to carry out an assassination attempt both were wounded.

gas prices jumped another nickel overnight. experts say we could see another big speak by the weekend prices within up 24 cents a gallon in -- some parts the bay yesterday. the spike is california specific specific, just us they blame low supply on august chevron refinery fire in richmond, high temperatures that caused a power surge at exxonmobile in torrence and maintenance on a pipeline in southern california some aren't buying it. >> everybody is jacking uphold sale prices not because of current shortages, but what they anticipate to be shortages. >> experts say prices will keep going up by as much as 10 cents each day this week. here are the bay area prices from aaa,: san jose $4.28. oakland $4.26.

san francisco $4.33 up five cents since yesterday. san jose city councilmember calling for a plan to determine if it is feasible to convert hotels and motels if the city to residental operates or office space. with widespread complaints about prostitution and related criminal activity that there could be a way to develop the buildings. he is expected to discuss the issue at a committee hearing today and bring it up next tuesday. the number of teens drinking and driving continuing to go down across the bay area and rest of the country. cdc says 9 out of 10 high school teens are not drinking and driving. teen dui's down 54% since 1991. the decrease is likely due to increased awareness about the dangers of dui and new safety laws. officials of the alum rock union school district in

cell phone while his crews were fighting the fire. they got call after midnight to come here in berkeley, just off of ashby, a block down from college. they say there was heavy fire coming out of the back of the home. berkeley police were the first ones here they rushed into the burning home to save the woman. the fire chief is calling them heroes. the next concern was to keep from it spreading next door to the neighbors' homes. they did have to evacuate just in case. firefighters couldn't be as aggressive as they wanted to be. >> during the fire attack there was partial collapse of the roof and the second floor which required us to step back and fight defensively which means we spray water from the rooftops and through the windows. >> reporter: they were able to keep from it spreading to any of the other homes on the street.

the red cross is helping the family of five figure out what to do next, where to go. firefighters say there were no small children in the home they think the youngest family member may been a teenager. they don't know the cause. they are waiting for daylight before they can start looking for the cause they say there's a lot of debris in the backyard it is too tough to tell in the dark what happened. they had a section of ashby shutdown because they had so many fire trucks here we are right off college, busy area they've reopened it that was their goal to clear it out before the busy morning commute started. they did accomplish that. next, waiting for the building inspector and daylight to see if it is safe to start figuring out what happened. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. 5:third four. highway 4 is open again -- through antioch after a crash and gas leak forced closure of westbound lanes. white suv collided with a dark colored car in the construction zone at hillcrest

around 10:30 last night one driver was taken to the hospital. suv was leaking gas so the chp shutdown westbound lanes for safety. crews had to use extra caution to avoid igniting the gas. traffic was diverted off the freeway while the lanes were washed down all lanes roped just after midnight. watch out for ran dells throwing stuff on one stretch of highway 4 it happened twice last week near the g street overpass two people were injured, monday night something hit an ambulance no one was hurt but significant damage. police aren't saying what exactly the vandals are flowing. family of a man who was shot to death by oakland police in may, have some of the information they've been asking for, but not all. this morning their attorney john burris is reviewing a 300 page police report on the fatal shooting of 18-year-old alan blueford. they had to make a lot of noise to get it.

last night they led a raucous crowd of supporters into city hall to demand answers at the meeting. police were brought in, half were locked out, the audience. blueford's mother wanted a copy of the police report from the may 6th, incident which she said she has asked for repeatedly many police say the senior had a gun when he was shot by a police officer who wanted to question him. councilman reed threatened to have the group forcibly removed but guy them his copy of the police report. their attorney says all that noise seems to have paid off. >> i wouldn't have got them as quickly as i have now mainly because they were not being moved quickly for me, the district attorney hadn't completed their investigation, i think the process was helpful. >> many of the names and details in the police report have been blacked out. this morning the oakland police officers' social is blasting a critical report of

its members by a court appointed monitor. the report accuses officers of sometimes opening fire even suspects mean if they don't face imminent threat. in-house investigations of shootings often fall short he mentions one shooting in may of last year when police killed two men. prosecutors cleared police. this comes as oakland faces potential federal take over of its police force. the presidential candidates are preparing to stake the stage in denver for their first -- preparing to take the stage in denver for their first debate. here's a live picture you can see the lecterns are set, the stage is set, 50 million expected to tune in after weeks of attacks on the campaign trail want what the two say could be pivotal with only five weeks before voters go to the polls. >> we can't an four more years like the last four years.
